Legendary guitarist Dickey Betts, a founding member of the iconic rock band the Allman Brothers Band, has passed away at the age of 74. The tragic news was confirmed by the band's official website and a family statement shared with CNN.

Betts, a pioneering guitarist known for his fiery and soulful style, was instrumental in shaping the sound of the Allman Brothers Band. His intense trading of guitar licks with fellow bandmate Duane Allman became a defining characteristic of their music.

Born in West Palm Beach, Florida, Betts joined the Allman Brothers Band in 1969. He co-wrote the band's biggest hit, "Ramblin' Man," which became a rock anthem and earned the band a Grammy Award in 1973. Other notable songs written or co-written by Betts include "Blue Sky," "Jessica," and "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed."

Betts' legacy extends beyond his work with the Allman Brothers Band. He released several solo albums and played with other notable musicians, including Bob Dylan, Levon Helm, and Eric Clapton. In 1995, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Allman Brothers Band.
