Verstappen Extends Championship Lead
Red Bull's Max Verstappen claimed his fourth victory of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the Japanese Grand Prix, held at Suzuka Circuit on Sunday, April 7th, 2024. The Dutchman led the race from start to finish, extending his lead in the championship standings.
Verstappen started the race on pole position and immediately built a comfortable lead over his rivals. He maintained his dominance throughout the 53-lap race, setting the fastest lap on Lap 46. Lando Norris of McLaren finished second, followed by Red Bull's Sergio Perez in third.
"It was an amazing race," said Verstappen after the victory. "The car was perfect, and I felt confident from the start. I was able to control the pace and never felt threatened. This is a great result for the team, and I'm thrilled to be back on top of the podium."
Verstappen's victory extends his championship lead to 34 points over Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes, who finished fourth in the race. The Dutchman now has 128 points in the standings, while Hamilton has 94.
The Japanese Grand Prix was the first race of the season to be held in front of fans, and the atmosphere at Suzuka was electric. The Japanese Grand Prix is one of the most prestigious races on the Formula 1 calendar, and it was a fitting stage for Verstappen's impressive performance.
