Massachusetts Tax Deadline Extension
What to Know About This Year's Tax Deadline
The Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) has announced that the deadline to file state income tax returns has been extended to Oct. 17, 2023, for individuals who had a valid extension to file their 2022 federal return. This is in line with the federal government's extension deadline.
Filing Options
Individuals can file their state income tax returns electronically through the DOR's website or by mail. The DOR encourages taxpayers to file electronically as it is the most secure and efficient way to file.
Payment Options
Taxpayers can pay their state income taxes online, by mail, or in person at a DOR office. The DOR offers a variety of payment options, including credit card, debit card, electronic check, and money order.
Estimated Tax Payments
Individuals who expect to owe more than $1,000 in state income taxes for the current year are required to make estimated tax payments. The first estimated tax payment is due on April 15, 2023, and subsequent payments are due on June 15, September 15, and January 15, 2024.
