A Coaching Legend Retires After 26 Seasons

Iowa Hawkeyes Women's Basketball Coach to Step Down

Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball coach Lisa Bluder announced her retirement after a remarkable 26-season tenure. Bluder, the winningest coach in Big Ten history, leaves a legacy of success and inspiration. Throughout her career, she led the Hawkeyes to 15 NCAA tournaments, including two appearances in the championship game, and coached numerous All-Americans, including current Iowa star Caitlin Clark.

In a statement released by the university, Bluder expressed a mix of emotions about her decision to retire. "It is with a range of emotions that I share that I will be retiring as the Iowa women's basketball coach," she said. "This program and these young women have meant the world to me, and I will cherish the memories we've made together."

Bluder's announcement comes as a surprise to many, as she has consistently fielded competitive teams and has been a beloved figure in Iowa City. "Lisa Bluder is a true legend in women's basketball," said University of Iowa athletics director Gary Barta. "Her accomplishments on and off the court are remarkable, and she has had an immeasurable impact on the lives of her student-athletes. We are incredibly grateful for her leadership and wish her nothing but the best in her retirement."

Bluder will remain involved with the Iowa women's basketball program in a non-coaching role. The search for her replacement will begin immediately.
