Emmanuel Macron Re Elected President Of France

Emmanuel Macron Re-Elected President of France

First Round Results

On April 10th, 2022, the first round of the French presidential election was held. No candidate received a majority of the votes, so a runoff election was held on April 24th between the top two vote-getters, Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen of the far-right National Rally (RN).

Runoff Election and Macron's Victory

In the runoff election, Emmanuel Macron emerged victorious, securing 58.5% of the votes compared to Le Pen's 41.5%. This marked Macron's second term as President of France.

National Rally's Gains

Despite Macron's victory, the National Rally made significant gains in the parliamentary elections held shortly after the presidential election. The RN won 334 seats in the National Assembly, a substantial increase from the previous election.

Macron's Loss of Parliamentary Control

Less than two months after his re-election, Emmanuel Macron lost control of the French National Assembly following a strong showing by the left-wing coalition, NUPES. This means that Macron will face challenges in passing legislation and implementing his agenda during his second term.
