WEB Government Update on the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme
The UK Government has announced details of a compensation scheme for people infected with HIV or hepatitis C through contaminated blood products in the 1970s and 1980s.
The scheme will be administered by the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA) and will provide lump sum payments of up to £100,000 to those who have been infected with hepatitis C.
Those who have been infected with HIV will be eligible for payments of up to £200,000.

The scheme will be open to people who received infected blood transfusions or blood products between 1970 and 1991.
It will also be open to people who received infected blood products as part of medical treatment, such as during surgery or childbirth.
The deadline for applications is 29th May 2023.

The Government has apologised for the suffering caused by the contaminated blood scandal.
The then Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, said that the scandal was "a tragedy that should never have happened".
He said that the Government was "determined to right the wrong that has been done".
